The Amazing Lunatic

Okay, here I go with another Mirna slam, but you should all be watching (and if you aren't, get on it) and know as I do that the woman is rivaling Omarosa for the title of Looniest Reality Show Female Ever.

In her entirely too sympathetic TV Guide interview, she accuses a fellow racer of making threats, acting on threats, and says that "top-level security was on him when they saw him trying to make me fall at the ticket counter." Now, the only time we saw Colin and Mirna make contact at a ticket counter was she tried to run past him in the exit chute of a ticket queue in order to cut in line. (They bumped each other, since the chute was only one person wide, and she later told the camera "this crazy person is trying to assault me") And since Colin and Christie appeared to lose no time and one again soundly beat Mirna and Charla to the pit stop, I'm just going to go out on a limb here and say she's full of it.

Beyond the absurdity of accusing a team that has finished ahead of you in the last five legs of burning jealousy, or implying that a racer who is racing with a woman thinks a woman can't race well, I think making public assertions that another racer threatened, harassed, and assaulted you and bribed others to keep you from winning officially makes you, well, scary and a really, really poor loser. Plus despite having Mirna push her and yell "Bitch, get out of my way," (classy!) I don't think Colin's partner Christie will later accuse Mirna of 'assault.' Actually, I'm kinda thinking CBS should say something about part of this, because she really went over the edge with some of things she said.

I mean, I don't love Colin. He's a dink, but he's racing well, and he's racing better than she did. And somehow, he's managed to stay ahead of her without telling ticket agents he needed an emergency doctor, having locals carry his pack, or telling Egyptian ticket agents that she was violent American who shouldn't be allowed to fly. (Plus, he's from Austin.) Yes, I'm sure he was aflame with jealousy that he managed to consistently finish ahead of her without having to be so "wiley."

Seriously folks, this is the one of the best shows on TV these days, (with Mirna gone, it should be even better) and with five pretty good teams left, you should start watching if you aren't now.

Haven't seen a lick of this show, but your passion for it intrigues me. Maybe I should look into it next week.

We started watching TAR near the end of its 2nd season and fell instantly in love with its premise. There aren't a lot of other shows where contestants have to face challenges like drinking a shot of vodka while balancing it on the blade of a Cossack sword or race toward the Sphinx.

The Race is a combination of skills (can you find the best flight, can you read the map, can you run faster, sort faster, load goats into a boat faster, ride a unicycle loaded with durian faster) and luck (will your taxi driver take you to the right place. Will locals attempt to detain you in order to extract money [this happened to a team once]. Will you get good directions. Will traffic keep you from reaching the airport on time).

There aren't a lot of alliances really. Teams will generally work with other teams for short term benefit, but there's no voting anyone out. And usually (this season is an exception) the inter-team drama is usually a lot less amusing than the intra-team drama.

There are five teams left. Colin and Christie are a couple from Austin. He's 'intense'; she was Miss Teen Texas, but is tougher than that would imply. Kim and Chip are an absolutely adorable married couple who are racing well and still taking a time to marvel at the fact that they are in Tanzania. Karen and Linda are moms who carpool, bowl, and generally hang out together (matching tattoos even). They're a bit obnoxious and they've been hanging back to much. They're starting to really get into the game. Kami and Karli are twins, and quite possibly the ditziest racers ever (seriously, they were confused by the instruction 'descend'). Brandon and Nicole are Dating Christian Models. The fact that there description contains 'Christian' means they pray a lot, and at first they were pretty obnoxious, but now they have chilled a little. Nicole seems on her way to Killer Fatigue, which is where the exhaustion of 20 hour bus rides followed by 12 hours flights followed by eating 2 lbs of cavier starts to catch up with you.

It's good stuff. Tuesday nights on CBS.
